LG wins prestigious contract to cool 815 bus shelters in Dubai

Air-conditioned bus shelter.
Global and regional digital leader LG Electronics announced that it had won a prestigious contract to cool 815 bus shelters in Dubai, at an estimated value of Dhs5.5m.

As per the contract, LG will provide its proven air-conditioning solutions to ensure greater passenger comfort.

Expected to be completed by the end of 2007, the project will provide cooling through ceiling-concealed duct air conditioners that are designed specifically for 800 bus shelters in Dubai. The contract included the supply-cum-installation of air conditioners to all the shelters on turnkey basis. LG is not only being awarded to install the units but also to maintain the same during the due course of time.

Mr. K.W. Kim, President of LG Electronics - Middle East and Africa, said that the contract win was an important achievement for LG as the global leader prepares for a period on continued regional growth. 'LG Electronics has maintained its leadership position in the international air-conditioning industry for a consecutive seven years and the latest development represents an important opportunity to showcase our contribution to the landmark projects in the world,' he added.

'This project underlines the level of confidence shown by the client in LG air conditioners which is the result of our important installation references and our commitment of innovative and cutting-edge technology to the region. We hope to continue our efforts in providing the people of the UAE with the very best that technology can offer,' Kim explained.

Air-conditioned bus shelters have already been installed at some of the most prominent locations in Dubai, including the completed Sufouh Road (behind Dubai Media City), Al Barsha and other neighbouring areas.

The contract comes on the heels of LG Electronics being selected for the seventh consecutive year as the highest selling air-conditioning manufacturer in the world. Last year, LG shipped more than 10 million units worldwide for a third consecutive year. According to Fuji-Keizai Co. Ltd., a Japanese market research company, 62.97 million air conditioning units were sold worldwide in 2006, with LG responsible for 19.5% or 12.28 million units.

LG worked in close co-operation with its R&D facilities in South Korea to provide the optimum product and air-conditioning system design, especially to suit this exclusive requirement. The major challenges faced were the extreme usage of the system, high glass structure, protection of the outdoor unit, and high cooling levels than normal requirement.

In comparison to other solution providers in the market, LG was the only one which simulated the climate conditions at the factory on a prototype model and came up with the velocity and temperature distribution analysis. LG Air Conditioning Division proved that the system could deliver the best of its performance through its unique tool of analysis known as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).

LG also stood above the competition by providing the units with its key technologies such as Gold Fin Coating for the extended life of the unit, a Weekly Programming feature to run the air conditioner at predefined hours, and the Twin Thermistor Control to ensure the proper sensing of indoor temperature.

Additionally, LG was able to supply the top discharge outdoor unit which was perfectly suited to the requirement. Air discharged from the outdoor unit will not affect passers-by - a major concern of the client.

LG also provided the technical training to the client's project engineers to ensure the right installation and SVC techniques for the unit. This was supported by the client's technical trip to Seoul as per their request to understand LG testing facilities.

The Contract for Supply of the Equipment was signed jointly with Fortune International Trading Company LLC (FIT) which is the distributor of LG Commercial Air Conditioners in the region of Dubai & Northern Emirates. FIT played a very important role in signing this contract by assuring their Trade Expertise and Capability to service LG units.

The contract for Installation of the units at site was signed jointly with Al Qatary Electrical & Air-Conditioning LLC which is the authorised dealer of FIT. Both the companies involved with LG in the Contract Signing are professionally very well managed companies in the region of UAE and have a very long association with LG Electronics.
